Assessment 9

I am currently a part of an online and face-to- community.  I am currently a member of a task-force at a university.  Our goal is to develop policies, procedures, and trainings for users of the university’s online courses and programs.  In my face-to-face community; the task force consist of faculty, and one tech support which is myself and we meet once a month.  In the community, we are divided into subcommittees which collaborates on various topics that the task force have decided to incorporate into the online courses and programs.  Even though I feel I play an important role in the face-to-face community; however, I do not always feel a sense of belonging. There is a disconnect between faculty and me a tech support; which I contribute to the different jargons.  However, we do have the ability to evaluate each other work.
Moreover, in my online community where I participate with other tech support and faculty, I have found that there is more a dialogue to create responses to questions asked.  This maybe contributed to that we meet online once a week. I have the opportunity while in our synchronized meeting to be able to create privacy internally.  I can send private chats to ask a question if I am not comfortable posting it to the community as a whole.  I have more time to gather my thoughts before interacting; which helps me tremendously if the subject matter is out of my area of expertise.  I also enjoy being able to always reference our meetings.  We make a practice to archive our online community conversations; therefore, if I need to miss a session, I am still kept in the loop which always me to feel a sense of belonging.
